Athlete of the Month: May 2017

Kelsey Benson, June 2017 Member of the Month

Caffeinated CrossFit, Smyrna, GA

We’ve known Kelsey for quite some time, and were extremely delighted when she joined our community at Caffeinated CrossFit. Kelsey is extremely down to earth and you can count on her to drive herself to her limits and goals in within her capacity. Her hard work and dedication attracts and motivates others around her to do the same.

Some fun facts about Kelsey:

(Q) Any advice for anyone just starting their fitness journey? (A) Don't be afraid to talk to everyone and anyone at the gym- the community is the best part of Crossfit, and even though it's intimidating being the new guy, we can't wait to meet you. Also, don't listen to anything Patrick says; if he tries to man-splain anything to you, just ask to see some credentials. 

(Q) What is your biggest achievement so far? (A) Manipulating my husband into finally marrying me (#win)

(Q) What are your future goals? (A) Not getting divorced.

(Q) Favorite cheat meal? (A) Calling it a “cheat meal” implies that I’m on a diet of some sort, which I clearly am not.

(Q) What you can’t live without? (A) Grocery stores and heated running water. Fool me once!

(Q) CrossFit secret:

1. Hitch your horse to a decent cart. If you're ever lucky enough to be on a competition team with Christine, you basically just have to show up and you win stuff. 

2. Don't trust anyone who hasn't had a serious, catastrophic injury. 

3. Remember why you fell in love with CrossFit in the first place. You're never as incredible as you think you are on your best days or as terrible as you think you are on your worst days, so just try not to take yourself too seriously.

“Kelsey is the cheerleader you need in your life. She's always willing to put in some extra time with you to work on a movement or encourage you to get on the rower with her. If you need that final push to get through a workout she's there telling you to pull harder or rip the barbell from the ground. It's hard to not push just a little harder when Kelsey is around always working on bettering herself.” Coach Jess

“Kelsey brings fun to any class or team she is a part of! She is a great athlete who knows when to push herself and when to be safe and "live to fight another day"! I love how every time I see her there is a good chance I'm gonna laugh at something surprising she says” Coach Christine

“Kelsey is a great leader in the gym. She is always demonstrating great form and body awareness but also always working toward a new goal to better herself. Also she is funny and keeps class entertaining for everyone.” Coach Mary

“Kelsey brings humor and passion to every class. She knows when to take it easy and knows when to push herself. Even though it's like trying to train a sassy cat, she's fun to coach and is a great example to the other members.” Coach Claire
