Athlete of the Month: December 2016

During our monthly coaches pow wow, while munching on tater tots and chicken poppers, (Cause what else would coaches do when gathering, except stuff our faces?) we thought about a good representation of an athlete whose come a long way since their first workout at the gym. Someone who comes in consistently and is always giving the workout her all… Our December Member of the Month popped out at us immediately.

Nerissa is a beautiful mother of 2 teenagers and a hard working athlete. She can be found, without fail, at the gym at least 4 times a week during the noon and early afternoon classes.

Coach Christine comments, “When she came in for the first time with no prior CrossFit experience, and a not so bright attitude on her exercise capability, I thought, “Either she is going to love this or hate this. No in between for this one.” I’m glad she chose to love it and excel at it. We are so proud of everything she has done at the gym and outside the gym with her eating and attitude towards working out.”

“I love how she focuses on technique and really work on her form on every movement and cue we throw her way.” Coach Mary comments. “Her Olympic lifts have come a long way to be one of the prettiest in the gym.”

When asked for advice to new CrossFitters, our bold athlete had this to say:

You can start at ANY level! Be consistent, don't compare yourself with others... comparison is a thief of joy and will hold you back; come to the gym, even when you hate the scheduled movements; Learn to properly perform the movements, don't get hung up on lifting heavy (being injured will not help you achieve your goals); Be happy with the small achievements and over time you will surprise yourself with bigger ones; Oh, and make sure you eat enough calories!

We love seeing our athletes grow and develop! No matter what age or fitness level they start at!
